SHOWERCORK™

Wine cork mosaic suitable in commercial and wet environments

showercork

Our Showercork™ mosaic tiles are made from post-industrial wine cork material. These pieces of clean wine corks, approximately 1/4" thick, are attached to a special paper backing which enables easy adhesion to the subfloor or wall substrate. Once the Showercork™ sheets are set and bonded, the installation is completed in a similar fashion to a traditional ceramic or stone mosaic, using a "sanded" grout pasted down around the cork discs. Once grouted, the entire area is sealed with a urethane-based finish.

Our Showercork™ mosaic has many of the same benefits as our regular cork flooring products (resilience, cushion, durability, beauty, etc.) but it is also suitable for use in spaces where water is a constant presence, including saunas, showers, and indoor pool surrounds. Our Showercork mosaic marries the benefits of an extremely durable, rapidly renewable by-product material with the added resilience of a cementitious grout compound to give you a superior, aesthetically beautiful, and very customizable flooring product.

Showercork™ Installation

Installation of the Showercork™ is similar to typical ceramic or mosaic tile installation using the glue then grout method. The existing substrate should be clean, including complete removal of vinyl tiles, old adhesives, loose or weak concrete, dirt, debris, and any other contaminant that may impact the bonding of the Showercork.

Step 1

Step 1: Evenly spread a water-based acrylic adhesive across the prepared substrate. The substrate should be a clean surface, free from any debris.

* Adhesive is available in 4 gal. buckets, which covers roughly 200 sq.ft.

Step 2

Step 2: Carefully place each sheet next to one another, cutting with a sharp utility knife where needed.

Step 3: If staining the tiles, do so now.

Step 4: Apply two coats of polyurethane to the tiles.

* Bona Kemi "Traffic" is a recommended urethane.

Step 3

Step 5: Evenly distribute a sanded grout product with a high quality rubber trowel, making certain all joints are being completely filled. The finished joints should be uniformly smooth, without any voids or low spots.

* Commonly available "sanded" grout of any color can be used.

Step 4

Step 6: After the grout has been cleaned, finish the installation by evenly applying two additional coats of polyurethane.

NOTE: Some color variation may occur among individual tiles due to the natural qualities of cork.
The color of the tile can also be altered depending on the type of finish applied.
